For reasons that will only be clear if someone watches tonight’s episode of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, I spent some time trying to find the lyrics of Bonnie Tyler’s Total Eclipse of the Heart in the original Klingon.
While some popular songs have been returned to their full Klingon glory, Total Eclipse of the Heart‘s restoration has not been published yet.
I predict that the full restored version will be available within the next couple of days.
A friend asked if I could restore it myself. I had to tell her the truth: Though I studied Klingon for four years, at no point was I skilled enough for such a task. All I could tell is that Rebecca Romijn‘s Klingon accent was abysmal.
If you want to hear correctly-pronounced popular songs (such as Born to be Wild) in the original Klingon, listen to the performances of the Klingon Pop Warrior.

My prediction was wrong: The lyrics have not been published yet. I should have anticipated that; in general, when the Klingon language is heard on the screen, what’s said is not published anywhere. After reading Litaer’s “Tongue of the Warriors” I think I understand why: The folks who do this translation are typically under contract, and their work belongs to Paramount.
