Baldur’s Gate 3 – Playthrough 11 – Romancing a Wizard

As I’ve mentioned in my previous BG3 posts, one of the goals of my playthroughs is to see what it’s like to enter into a relationship with each of the available romancable characters. Of course, this allows me to see all the available sex scenes in the game.

The relationship goal for this playthrough was Gale.

In fact, Gale’s sex scene is by far the most elaborate in the game.

It appears that everything Gale knows about sex he learned from this book.
Despite that, sex with Gale is out of this world.
Hey, Araj! Don’t be a Peeping Drow!

Relationships in BG3‘s story are more than just sex. If you don’t believe me, consider this video from Devora Wilde, who voiced the character of Lae’zel:

Ever since Patch 6, each character has their own set of kissing sequences. They show Larian Studio’s typical attention to detail. So far my observations are:

  • Minthara kisses fiercely.
  • Karlach kisses with joy.
  • Lae’zel kisses shyly, as she’s not used to affection.
  • Astarion, if you choose a dark path for him, kisses as a power dynamic.
  • Wyll kisses with a dance.

Gale’s kissing sequences can’t be described as simply. He’ll start with a brief kiss, with a peck on the lips or forehead. Then your character pulls him in for a deeper kiss.

A brief kiss…
… then Karlach pulls him in …
… for a more passionate kiss …
… the kind that musses up someone’s hair.

I suppose one might say he takes an intellectual approach to affection, or that’s he’s inexperienced, and needs you to inject passion into the relationship.

No other character will take you on a boat trip through nebulae in order to propose.

You’d think the game would clean up the characters if they had a relationship scene after a battle. Or maybe Gale figured out what turns Karlach on.

Like most of the other Origin characters, Gale has a major character decision to make at the end of the game. (I’m not counting the choice to become Pure Evil, about which I’ll discuss in a future post.) The reason why I chose to play as Karlach in this playthrough was so that I could see how Gale’s choice affected her fate. I liked what I saw.

I won’t spoil how you get to this image, or even what it means. If you play BG3, you can figure it out.

At this point, here’s my “relationship log”. I list the playthrough, the main character played during the playthrough, and with whom they had a relationship:

Playthrough 11 completed my “romance rounds”; I’ve romanced all the romancable characters in the game.

There are other characters with whom you can have sex scenes, but I’d hardly describe those connections as “romance”.

What Gale doesn’t know won’t hurt him.
But if Gale finds out about this, the relationship is over.
Nym Orlith is an experienced professional at offering a personal experience that includes much, but definitely includes neither romance nor underwear.

However, I’ve not experienced the kissing sequences with Shadowheart. Playthrough 1 took place before Patch 6. Therefore, in playthrough 12, my main character will romance her.

That will still not exhaust all the possibilities. As I mentioned in my playthrough 9 write-up, I have a feeling that Astarion kisses differently if he does not choose the Dark path. I’ll want to return to him someday.

Shadowheart also has a choice between Light and Dark. Her romance sequences may also be different depending on that choice.

And I still want to return to Minthara. I found myself taking lots of screenshots of her during this playthrough. I think my tiny little child mind wants her approval again. I look forward to a playthrough in which I feel I could completely experience her relationship sequences.

Minthara, a Lolth-sworn Drow.
Minthara doesn’t think much of shame. She commissioned a nude statue of herself. (In this playthrough, I learned that each Origin character’s statue has a different name. Compare this image to the one of Druid Angela’s statue near the end of this story.)
She also had a portrait made. There are many easels in the game, but for some reason you can’t generally put a specific painting in any of them. To see her portrait, I had her place it on the ground.

However, the full relationship arc with Minthara demands an “evil” playthrough, which contradicts another goal I have for playthrough 12. We’ll get to that goal in due course.

Meanwhile, my next BG3 post will be on how Sorcerer Sabrina affected playthrough 11.

Sorcerer Sabrina

What’s this? Sorcerer Sabrina was a hireling in playthrough 9. How could she affect a subsequent playthrough? Is she that powerful a Sorcerer?

We’ll see…
