A Witch Does Passover – 2016, part 1
This year’s Passover seder (on Friday evening) is more logistically complex than previous years, even though the number of people is fewer.
This year’s Passover seder (on Friday evening) is more logistically complex than previous years, even though the number of people is fewer.
This year I organized my Passover seder at the home of Sabrina and Michael. This year, Passover and Easter fell on the same weekend. We wound up blending those two and the pagan holiday of Ostara into PassEastara. The seder went well. There were a total of 11 people there, making it one of the largest seders…
The theme for the seder this year turned out to be “family.” Three guests, who dearly wanted to come, could not due to family obligations. Of the seven guests we had this year, six of them (once enough wine was consumed) shared trials and tribulations associated with their family. Yes, I was one of the six. The one who didn’t share a family story came to my seder for the first time, and didn’t know most of the people there; they may have kept quiet.
This year we had five at the seder. This is about what I expected, since Erev Pesach fell on a Monday night.
This year there were eight people at the seder, four of whom had not been to a formal Passover seder before. It was a grand seder, the discussion was stimulating, and the people were great! Among the things I learned:
There were only four people at the seder last night, but we discovered that the quality of a seder is not a function of the number of people. We had an awesome time.

The seder was good this year… but it felt short. There were only four participants, everyone knew the haggadah, and we knew each other’s opinions too well to have much discussion.
I don't have any great Passover sagas to report this year. The seder was successful: this year I did not make too much food, and most of what I made turned out well.
Next week I'm going to present my annual Passover seder. For those of you don't bother to read my old posts (most of you, I assume... in fact, I'm not sure if anyone reads these posts), here are my earlier ruminations on the subject of Passover:A Witch Does Passover (Part 1)A Witch Does Passover (Part 2)A Witch…
