At this point, I think one of these applies to you:
-
You’ve been following the series of posts that began with 46! and you’re thinking, “Yeah, more of the same.”
-
You’ve come directly to this post, probably due to one of my social-media links. Or perhaps you’re looking through the posts in the order they’re listed in the table of contents, which is in reverse chronological order.
If that describes you, I suggest you start with the first post in the sequence, 46!, and follow them in the order that I wrote them. That will give you the details that I’m omitting in this post.
With that out of the way:
Yes, I rolled a 59 on an Ability Check in Baldur’s Gate 3!
Once again, I didn’t actually see this on the die. This is all I saw:
Here’s the combat log and the detail:
This is close to what I believe the maximum roll I can get with Astarion’s combination of attributes, skills, gear, and buffs.
I think that maximum is 61, which I would have gotten if I’d rolled a 4 instead of 3 on both Guidance and Shapeshifter’s Boon.
I should also acknowledge that all of this is possible because:
-
I’m using a Swords Bard to cast Bardic Inspiration every time Astarion uses Sleight of Hand to disarm a trap or pick a lock.
Here’s the Bard Moana, one of my Three Protectors in playthrough 12. I’ll introduce Larrana and Curly Joanna in my full playthrough 12 write-up. - I’m getting boosts in skills and attributes from using a mod that lets me take characters up to level 20 in BG3 (the normal limit is level 12).
-
Another mod lets me have so many members in the party that I can afford to waste Bardic Inspirations on the pursuit of higher skill checks.
At this point, I see one of three things happening before I reach the end of playthrough 12:
- 59 is as high as I get. I think that’s the most likely.
- I write one more post with the title 60! or 61!
- I write two more posts, with the titles 60! and then 61!
Indeed it will, Astarion!
