I just got back from a letter-writing party at a friend’s house.
The point was to write letters as part of Vote Forward. You send hand-written letters to folks who haven’t voted recently. The goal is to boost voter turnout.
Everyone who writes a letter is encouraged to use their own words, as long as the tone is non-partisan, non-confrontational, and encouraging.
Here’s what I wrote in my letters:
I am voting in this election because I’m lucky enough to have a job with excellent health coverage. I’m concerned about those who are not so fortunate. I want to vote for leaders who will take the issue of health care seriously.
Did I really write that? Or did I write this:
bIlapbe’chugh vaj bIcharghlu’!
Which means “Vote or you will be conquered!”
Bear in mind that one’s hand gets tired after a while. Sometimes a short message in Klingon is better.
