Last year, for Real Angela‘s birthday, I got her a cameo from Neil Newbon, the actor behind the character of Astarion in Baldur’s Gate 3.
This year (why mess with success?) I arranged for a cameo from Devora Wilde, the actor who supplied the voice and motion-capture for the character of Lae’zel. She provided a bright, cheery birthday greeting:
Last year, I got the cameo at the last minute. This year I got it a month in advance. This meant that Devora Wilde wasn’t rushed (not that Neil Newbon let the last-minute nature of his cameo affect his performance).
It also let me plan a bit. For the last couple of our BG3 sessions together, I kept complaining about to Real Angela that she was rushing things and that planning was a better strategy. It was a devious scheme on my part so that she’d enjoy the video all the more.
This leaves the question of next year. If the voice actor behind Garrus in Mass Effect (Brandon Keener) were making cameos, I’d book him a year in advance.
I’ll have to think about it. Which is as it should be, since one should think about one’s friends.
