The cover of the Monsters & Minions expansion rules. The final Monster we fought was the Leviathan. The main board at the end of the game. The four numbered cards at the top are normally used to distribute the dice that will become part of your character’s attributes. On the bottom of the fourth such card is one of the Fiends, which basically add a continuous penalty to your character until you get rid of them. The column on the left (“Abyss of Remains”, etc.) are bonuses added to your attacks on the final Monster in the game; that’s shown in the previous picture, because we pulled the Monster card off the board in order to fight it. The (upside-down) Elemental card on the lower left is one of the Minion; battling them will give you bonuses in the final Monster battle. My player board at the end of the game. The Fiends & Familiars expansion includes an additional attribute, Power. It also include “split dice”, which count as two different colors; this offers more scoring opportunities, but they can’t roll more than a four. The clear dice are from the Monsters & Minions expansion; they roll from 3 to 8.In the end, I won with a score of 37. Maria also had 37, but gold is a tiebreaker: I had six gold, she had only one or two.
Our verdict: Roll Player is a fun game on its own, The expansions add somewhat to the game (the Monsters & Minions expansion is the better of the two), but they also make game setup take longer. If we were to play again, I’d be content with the base game alone.
