Garb give-away

I just got finished writing an overly self-indulgent post, but that wasn’t the reason I visited LiveJournal today.  My original intent was to write about giving away garb.

I’m going to get a yurt. If you don’t know what one is, or you’re curious about the one I’m getting, here it is:

I’m getting the 12-foot-wide model.

There are a lot of good things about yurts. One not-so-good thing is that, even folded up, they take up a lot of space.  (They fit on the back of your average Mongolian yak, but your average Mongolian yak is pretty strong.)

If I’m going to store the yurt in my apartment, I have to clean out my apartment.  I’m doing this now.  I’m getting rid of a lot of old clothes that were filling up the closets where the yurt will go.  The mundane clothing is going to Good Will, or whoever picks up from the clothing-donation bins near the local supermarket.

I’m also getting rid of some Ren-Faire garb, either because because it’s too small for me (sigh) or because I have so much other garb that I know I’m not going to wear it again.  I could just throw it into the clothing-donation bin (I know that most of those donations get pulped into rag paper anyway), but I’d like to be able to give it to folks who might use it.

Here’s the deal:

  • It’s all men’s garb. Women might be able to wear some of it, but I doubt it.
  • It’s all my size… when I was 15 years younger: large or perhaps extra-large.
  • Mostly it’s loose-fitting shirts and pants, with at least one "fancy" outfit.
  • There is some footwear, which I know I won’t be able to wear again.
  • You want pouches? I’ve got pouches! A couple are modern, the rest are period.
  • The price: You have to pick it up.

On February 28, 2009, I’m going to pile up whatever hasn’t been claimed and dump into the clothing-donation bin.  So if you’ve been looking for some garb to wear, or some garb to put on the guy in your life, now is the time to speak up.

Edit: I’ve just spent the past three hours cleaning my closets, and I’ve stopped… but it’s because I’ve run out of garbage bags to store the clothing. There’s more to clean, and perhaps more to give away!

Oh, and if you’re the type that likes scrap clothing for sewing projects, speak up!  I’ve got some Ren-Faire robes I made myself that are ripe for cutting up into something useful.

15-Feb-09: The footwear has been claimed, as has the fancy outfit, and some pants and shirts. Still some nice stuff left.
